Conceptually a Workflow is a series of operations and tasks applied to some data to derive new information. In practice it is a suite of tools that makes it easy to daisy-chain processes, which can be accessible on the web through web services in particular. In astronomy and heliophysics the main workflow engine is Taverna, developed a team at University of Manchester (UK), with the myGrid project. The myExperiment platform is used to share workflows within the community. The VESPA team is testing the implementation of workflows in planetary sciences.
